Asia, the motherland of altered states, the purveyor of tropical pop. This night pays tribute to the history of pop psychedelia from the East with a live collaborative performance by VOWLS and Jeff Garcia. The dance party will continue into the night, with a full-sensory tour of Bollywood disco, Vietnamese soul, Cambodian rock, Thai Molam groove, Japanese synth pop and other pan-Asian psychedelic dance music brought to you by Invisible City Sound System.
VOWLS is a psychedelic band from Toronto that combines the energetic inventiveness of mutant- disco and post-punk with pan-global influences and technology. The group creates music that is both forward-thinking and bottom-shaking. Being film nerds, the members love collaborating with video artists and filmmakers, recently performing a live soundtrack to Kenji Mizoguchi’s silent film The Water Magician (1933) at the 2010 Shinsedai Cinema Festival.
