Toronto-based taiko drum troupe Nagata Shachu will be continuing its successful 17th season back in Toronto’s Harbourfront Centre on April 2nd with Canadian percussion ensemble TorQ. This one of a kind performance will feature an exciting performance that combines traditional Japanese drumming with Western and world percussive instruments, creating an exciting mix of sounds with the marimba, vibraphone and even garbage cans. Also look forward to the world premiere of music composed by Akemi Akachi especially for this show.
Nagata Shachu’s energetic and rejuvenating performances have travelled across Canada and the US. The Whole Note has said: “Nagata Shachu is one of our city’s musical treasures…”. TorQ is a percussion quartet that is committed to making percussion music accessible to audiences that span generations.
Nagata Shachu’s season launched last November at Harbourfront’s Fleck Dance Theatre with acclaimed success. The taiko drumming group will also be performing on April 21 at the Lula Lounge and will conclude its season with a performance taking place on June 4th at the Harbourfront Theatre Centre with special guest Jiro Murayama on the bamboo flute.
