Position: Volunteer Assistant

The position of Volunteer Assistant of the Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival is an opportunity to learn valuable HR skills in a fun, fast paced environment and will work closely with the Volunteer Coordinator on the volunteer program, which includes recruiting, scheduling, training and maintaining over 200 volunteers to help execute the 2013 Reel Asian festival. This position will have a specific focus on managing volunteers for the festival events in Richmond Hill.

Responsibilities include

  • Assist with researching various organizations in Toronto and Richmond Hill for outreach purposes
  • Assist with facilitating volunteer orientations in Toronto
  • Attend pre-festival outreach and screening events if available
  • Create Richmond Hill volunteer orientation documents and train and supervise Richmond Hill volunteers
  • Assist with planning and executing Volunteer Screening and Appreciation Party
  • Maintain the volunteer lounge during the festival to ensure that all volunteers feel comfortable and appreciated
  • Assist office staff with various administrative tasks as required. This will include, but not limited to replying to general inquiries, reception duties, and moving festival equipments
  • Prepare a detailed post-mortem report before the end of contract

Minimum Qualification & Experience

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multi-task and detail-oriented
  • Comfortable speaking in front of large groups of people
  • Flexible work schedule, some evening work is required
  • Must be available for all 7 days of the festival (November 5 – 10, 15, 16)
  • Experience volunteering with Reel Asian an asset


Time Commitment
1 half day a week August to October
Full time during the festival (November 5 – 10 & November 15, 16)
September 3 (OCAD O-Days event)
October 1 – 4 (New Volunteer Orientation Sessions)
November 22 (Volunteer Screening & Appreciation party)
