TIFF Asian Film Summit 2013

The 38th Toronto International Film Festival has confirmed the return of its Asian Film Summit, to be held during their festival on Tuesday, September 10, 2013.

Returning to the Shangri-La Hotel for its second year, the summit is part of TIFF’s ongoing commitment to build bridges* between Asian cinema and the West – something we can really appreciate here at Reel Asian.

Director Keanu Reeves will participate in a case study examining the US-China co-production of Man of Tai Chi (太極俠). Maybe Reeves will also spill what it was like to work with kung-fu cinema legend Yuen Wo-ping 袁和平! Other speakers confirmed include Japanese industry titan Tatsumi “Tom” Yoda 依田巽 and Quentin Tarantino’s favourite HK film director, Johnnie To Kei-fung 杜琪峯.

Another session to look forward to will be a panel on working cross-culturally, featuring Michael Lake, CEO of Pinewood Iskander Malaysia Studios; Sanjeev Lamba, CEO of Reliance Big Pictures (Mumbai); and Canadian producer Shan Tam 譚芷珊 (of Finding Mr. Right and Rumble In The Bronx).

*While the Asian Film Summit is not generally open to the public, registered industry professionals already accredited by TIFF can purchase access to the summit as an add-on option.
