The annual Asian Film Industry Network reception at the Japan Foundation was another jam-packed affair this year – word is getting around that the annual celebration of Asian films and filmmakers at TIFF is always well-catered with lots of food. Did I mention the open bar?
Co-presented by the Korean Film Council (KOFIC), UniJapan, and the Japan Foundation Toronto, the event is a great opportunity to schmooze for movers and shakers in the Asian film & culture industries, and Japan Foundation Toronto director Masayuki Suzuki was nice enough to mention Reel Asian during his welcoming remarks – arigato, Suzuki-san!
Among the many guests was JCCC executive director James Heron, looking dapper in his suit and tie, above. Reel Asian’s founder, Anita Lee, was also there along with filmmaker Helen Lee (Hers At Last, RA 2008), visiting from Korea. I also got to introduce Ana Serrano, doyenne of the CFC Media Lab, to visiting SFIAAFFers Christine Kwon and Masashi Niwano. Serrano will be down in the Bay Area later this week throwing a party at the 01SJ Biennial so she put the SFIAAFF crew on the guestlist – and this is what networking is all about!
