Night Market Stinky Tofu: Delicacy or Dealbreaker?

This past weekend, the folks at NAAAP Toronto hosted the first ever Waterfront Night Market at the downtown T&T parking lot.  Attendees were treated to the sights, sounds and smells of a Night Market – think colourful vendor signs, Metallica cover band and smells of bbq’d tentacles…ok, so more like a traditional Asian night market with a heavy metal twist!

Reel Asian had our own booth set up complete with a giant carnival wheel serving up instant gratification (i.e. sweet prizes), a ballot draw to win a prize package (which included a Lai Toh Heen Restaurant dinner for two and a pair of Festival Passes), exciting films clips from last year’s festival, popcorn topped with Asian delights such as dried shredded pork, green tea powder, and sesame & seaweed, and last but certainly not least…our glamourous red carpet photo shoot.  Thanks to everyone who stopped by to show your support and saying “hello”.  Glamour shots have all been uploaded to Flickr.

To give my two cents to the ongoing debate of Stinky Tofu, just to give you some perspective, this vendor had the longest line up throughout the entire weekend with hungry attendees lining up since 4PM (2 hrs before the market officially opened!)…so I hereby declare this smelly dish…a delicacy.

Congrats to our friends at NAAAP Toronto for pulling off a tremendously successful event.  We hope to be a part of it again next year!
