Last year, the Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival (Reel Asian) teamed up with The Reel Thing to present two Asian films in Richmond Hill as part of our initiative to reach new audiences outside of Toronto. To continue on this success, Reel Asian returns to York Region once again to bring the best in Asian cinema to the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts.
On March 4, Reel Asian presents MERRY GO ROUND (東颫破), an award-winning Hong Kong independent drama co-directed by Clement Cheng (鄭思傑) and Yan Yan Mak (麥婉欣). Clement Cheng also directed Reel Asian’s wildly popular 2010 Opening Night Gala film Gallants. Actress Nora Miao (苗可秀), known for starring alongside Bruce Lee in the 1970s, will be in attendance on Mar 4.
MERRY GO ROUND deals with the consequences of the small choices we make every day, and the regret that sometimes comes from the decisions that we make in a past life. In MERRY GO ROUND, four individuals cross paths in the streets of Hong Kong: a dying drug addict (Ella Koon), a Chinese herbal physician (Nora Miao), a guilt-ridden real estate broker (Lawrence Chou), and a grumpy coffin home caretaker (Teddy Robin Kwan). Chance encounters with each other lead them to rediscover old feelings long-thought buried. With breathtaking cinematography and a soundtrack played by Hong Kong indie band,Ketchup, this multi-layered love story spans 60 years of history and a lifetime of regrets.
