Reel Asian co-presents CALF – Japanese Indie Animation at the Toronto Animation Arts Festival International (TAAFI). TAAFI is Toronto’s first and foremost international animation festival dedicated in celebrating animation and its related art forms from all over the world. The festival takes place from July 26-28, 2013 at TIFF Bell Lightbox and Corus Quay.

A collective that includes some of Japan’s most creative, independent animators, CALF presents us with a program of their finest selections. These films display a rare level of skill in their unconventional storytelling and unique style. Followed by a discussion with CALF filmmakers Ryo Okawara and Masaki Okuda moderated by Aki Takabatake. More information here.
Full list of filmmakers include Atsushi Wada, Shin Hashimoto, Saori Shiroki, Mirai Mizue, Kei Oyama, Yutaro, Ryo Okawara and Masaki Okuda. In 2011, Reel Asian screened a Youth Shorts programme “Creatures” during the festival consisting of work from Mirai Mizue, Atsushi Wada and Key Oyama.
