Starry Starry Night

Last year, the Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival® (Reel Asian) hosted its inaugural weekend film festival in Richmond Hill to present four films from Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea and Vietnam to excited audiences in the York Region. On March 16, Reel Asian returns Taiwanese family film STARRY STARRY NIGHT (星空), starring Josie Xu Jiao and Eric Lin Hui Ming and directed by Tom Shu-Yu Lin. Starry Starry Night was first screened at the 2011 Busan International Film Festival as part of the New Currents film program.

STARRY STARRY NIGHT is a coming of age story of Xiao Mei, the only child in a family that is falling apart as her parents become increasingly disconnect. At school, Xiao Mei begins an unlikely friendship with a mysterious new boy in her class. Together, they set out for a backpacking journey through the mountains and lean on fantasy and imagination to overcome their worries.

This film is based on the illustrated novel The Starry Starry Night by illustrator / writer Jimmy Liao. Watch the movie trailer here.
