The largest Asian film & video festival in Canada, the Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival is a unique showcase of contemporary Asian cinema. Exhibiting works that highlight the diverse peoples, languages and cultures from Asia and Asian diaspora, the festival is dedicated to the finest works from East and Southeast Asian artists from Asia, Canada, the U.S. and all over the world.

We invite you to submit independent features and shorts from all different genres. Be it obscure experimental works, complex political rants, ironic chop-socky kung fu flicks, deconstructionist mockumentaries or minimalist GenerAsianX slacker dramas, send us anything that is brilliant, creative, weird, or just plain entertaining.


SUBMISSIONS GUIDELINES

1) ELIGIBILITY
All works must be independently produced with an East/Southeast Asian/ Asian-North American in a key creative role. We encourage submissions from first-time and emerging directors. We welcome the works from, by and about the people and the cultures of the following countries: Brunei, Burma, Cambodia, China, East Timor, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Macau, Mongolia, North Korea, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.

2) DEADLINES
EARLY DEADLINE: FRIDAY MAY 16TH, 2008 (NO ENTRY FEE)
FINAL DEADLINE: MONDAY JUNE 16TH, 2008 (ENTRY FEE $10)

3) SUBMISSIONS FORM
Complete online submissions form. This will include film/video details, credits, synopsis, biography, contact information and agreements. Be sure to include a printed copy with your submission. When submitting more than one title, please submit an entry form for each submission. Online submissions will see a confirmation page once the online form has been completed. If you are not able to submit online, contact Reel Asian for options. If the information submitted (such as premiere status) changes notify the Artistic Director with the details.

4) SUPPORT MATERIAL
Submission must include:
- Printed and signed submission form
- VHS/DVD preview copy (Please do not send masters or irreplaceable cassettes.)
- Print quality digital stills on CD
- Biography/ filmography
- Optional relevant material material such as press kit or longer synopsis

5) $10 ENTRY FEE
Submissions received post early deadline must include an entry fee of $10 CAD. Address cheque or money order to Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival. Do not send cash by mail. Deliver cash payments in person only. For Paypal or credit card payments fill out online application.

6) SENDING INSTRUCTIONS

For international packages: The customs declaration should clearly state the preview video has no commercial value, is for temporary consideration and for cultural use only. If using a courier, never send work to Canada by UPS (United Parcel Service), as they charge large customs and duties charges. Reel Asian will not cover the resulting customs and duties charges, and will refuse the package.

Do not send entries in a fibre-filled envelope as viewing equipment can be damaged.

7) NOTIFICATION
Hard copy submissions received by Reel Asian will not received a confirmation notice unless otherwise requested. Submissions selected for the festival will be notified by late August. Preview tapes will not be returned unless a self-addressed stamped envelope is included. For submissions from outside of Canada please use International Postal Coupons.

8) EXHIBITION
Exhibition prints may be presented in 35mm, 16mm, Digi Beta, BetacamSP and DVCam. MiniDV is possible but not recommended. DVD or VHS is not an acceptable exhibition format. Print shipping costs to Toronto must be paid by the participant. The festival will only pay the cost of shipping exhibition prints back to the participant.
