How do I purchase a Reel Asian membership? How much does it cost?
There are three ways to purchase a Reel Asian membership.
Online: fill out the online form at reelasian.com/membership and pay via Paypal.
In person: visit the membership table during the festival or at year-round Reel Asian events, fill out a membership form and pay in person.
Aeroplan Points: donate your aeroplan points to Reel Asian to get a membership. See instructions on our Aeroplan points page.
Starting at $60, a Reel Asian membership grants you access to ticket discounts, VIP event invitations and many more benefits. Please refer to membership benefit grid for the benefits and pricing for each level of membership at Reel Asian.
Once I purchase my membership, what happens next?
Note that if you selected the full tax receipt, no ticket benefit option when purchasing your membership, you will not be receiving any complimentary ticket benefits.
Do I get a tax receipt with my membership at Reel Asian?
If you would like to donate to Reel Asian without getting a membership and receive a tax receipt instantaneously, you can also do so on our CanadaHelps page.
When will my membership be valid until?
Depending on when you sign up as a Reel Asian member, your membership expiry date will vary:
If you sign up/renew from now to before the Centrepiece Presentation at the 2016 Festival (November 13, 2016): your membership is valid from the moment you receive a confirmation email to October 1, 2017. That is, your membership is applicable for festival 2016
If you sign up/renew at or after the Centrepiece Presentation (November 13, 2016) at the 2016 festival: your membership would be valid from November 21, 2016 (after festival 2016) to December 31, 2017. That is, your membership will be applicable for festival 2017.
When/where can I pick up my member badge? What do I need my member badge for?
Before the festival begins, all member badge are available for pick-up at the Bell Lightbox Box Office (first floor, 350 King Street W.). Should you encounter any issue picking up your badge, please call Reel Asian office at 416 703 9333.
Do I have access to the member only box office? If so, how do I use it?
Reel Asian members from the Supporter ($150) level and up have access to the member only box office for downtown screenings and events. The member only box office will open on October 7, 2016, 4 days before the public box office opens. If you are eligible for using the member only box office, by the evening of October 6, you will receive your membership # in your email. For details on how to redeem your tickets or purchase tickets with member price, please refer to the following two questions.
The member only box office does not include shows taking place in North York and Richmond Hill.
How do I redeem the festival tickets/reserved seats included in my membership?
Tickets to regular downtown screenings: Call in at 416-599-8433 or order in person at the Bell Lightbox box office. Please provide the box office staff with your name, your Reel Asian membership level and your membership number.
Reserved seats at downtown gala screenings (Opening Night, Centrepiece & Closing Night):

How do I purchase tickets with the member price?
For any presentation or ticketed Reel Idea events downtown (Isabel Bader Theatre, Glenn Gould Theatre, TIFF Bell Lightbox, AGO Jackman Hall), you have the following three options:
Online: visit the member ticket purchasing page to buy tickets online with the member price. The page link will be sent to you directly via email by Reel Asian membership.
In person: visit the Festival Box Office at Bell Lightbox (350 King Street W.), show your Reel Asian member badge and buy tickets in person.
On the phone: call 416-599-8433, provide the Lightbox Box Office staff with your name, Reel Asian membership level and membership number and purchase tickets on the phone.
For Richmond Hill screenings, please use the member discount code to purchase member price tickets online at rhcentre.ca. The discount code will be sent directly to your email by Reel Asian membership.
There is no member discount for screenings in the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre and the Aga Khan Museum.
How do I get invited to VIP events year round and exclusive opportunities to meet filmmakers and guests?
Prior to the festival and throughout the year, you will receive email invitations to VIP events and exclusive opportunities to meet filmmakers and guests. These events include but are not exclusive to:
- Lunar New Year Fundraiser (usually take place in January or February)
- May Film Showcase
- Reel Asian TIFF Reception (September)
- Reel Asian Festival Launch Party (October)
If you have not been receiving emails from Reel Asian membership, please make sure to check whether these emails have automatically bounced to your Spam or Junk mailbox before contacting us.
How do I get discounts at Reel Asian partnered restaurants and cafes?
To redeem the discounts and special offers at our partnered restaurants and cafes, please show your Reel Asian badge to the staff at the restaurants and cafes. Note that different offers are valid during different periods in the year. Please make sure you read the fine print on the period that the discounts are valid at this page.
