Heng is a sixteen-year-old whose father is a drunk and a hoarder, and whose mother left the family eight years ago after they migrated from mainland China.
One day, Heng saves a woman, Ms. Yip, from drowning in his school’s pool. When she turns out to be Heng’s new substitute teacher, the pair’s mutual loneliness draws them to each other. Ms. Yip finds out that Heng is motherless while Heng discovers Ms. Yip’s husband is cheating on her.
In order to find out more information about the affair for Ms. Yip, Heng enrolls in a dance class that the mistress teaches. As Heng learns details about the other woman, he not only shares the information about the affair with Ms. Yip but he also shares what he has learned on the dancefloor, drawing the pair even closer together.
Internationally acclaimed Hong Kong actress Carina Lau delivers superb performance, alongside a breakout turn from promising new talent, Ng Siu Hin. The film is a subtle and tender exploration of the fragility of marriage and the essence of romance that defies the traditional conventions of age and class.
