Paid Opportunity: Reel Asian is looking to pass the mic to an artist who identifies as a part of the Black Asian community by commissioning an original piece of artwork. This artwork will serve as the key creative in our 2020 Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival campaign and pays $1,200 CAD. With the help of a design agency, the artwork will be used for the cover of the programme guide, website artwork, and more with participation of artist.
Creative direction from Reel Asian will be limited to encouraging the successful applicant to use the lived experience that is specific to them to convey what they want to share from their point of view. We celebrate the complex nuances that live within a single person. But what is that to you now, at this time? How does it inform your world-view? How does having agency over your own identity translate to your artwork?
The artist can be a photographer, illustrator, painter, graphic designer, motion artist or other and this call is open to all residents of Canada (including current, returning or graduated international students) or Canadians abroad. If you feel strongly that an existing piece of your work is suitable, please make note and it will be considered. Final artwork must be delivered as a high-res scan or as a high-res digital file.
This call for artists will also serve as a resource for others to use in their own practice of commissioning and paying artists for their work. We will take the compiled list of artists and create an Excel sheet that will be openly accessible.
We are open and excited to see all styles of art come through in this call. Black Asian artists and creators identifying as a part of the LGBTQ2S community, neurodivergent, or disabled are highly encouraged to apply.
