On May 30, the casts of Kim’s Convenience and Fresh Off The Boat came together to do a joint live table read to raise money for the Asian American and Asian Canadian Arts. Reel Asian was the recipient of the Canadian Team Kimbits fundraiser where proceeds benefitted our Unsung Voices Youth Workshop program specifically. Collectively, with the fundraising campaign organizers, the casts, and fellow recipients, we decided we wanted to honour the donations made in support of the initial cause of Asian arts but pivot our message and cause to reflect the urgency of the current Black Lives Matter movement. Any donations made from this point forward will go straight to Black Lives Matter via #AsianArtists4BlackLives. As an arts organization and as individuals, we stand strongly with the Black community. We stand firmly against systemic racism, state violence, and police brutality. Pivoting the fundraiser to share our proceeds with the Black Lives Matter movement is just one way and we will continue to look for more ways to take action as an organization.
We sincerely thank everyone who donated in support of our Unsung Voices program. We encourage you to donate to organizations working in support of Black Lives Matter, or Black Creatives and Artists directly, or you can visit our Seed&Spark campaign to donate via AsianArtists4BlackLives here.
