Opening Night Gala: GALLANTS | Tue Nov 9, 7:00 pm | Bloor Cinema
Dir. Clement Sze-Kit Cheng, Derek Chi-kin Kwok | Hong Kong 2010 | Toronto Premiere

In a homage to action stars of yesteryear, two washed-up masters and an unlikely hero must stand up to a gang of
ruthless developers. Directors Cheng and Kwok strike gold with possibly the most hilarious, nostalgic and ass-kicking
movie you will see all year! GALLANTS is supported by executive producer superstar Andy Lau and recently won the
New York Asian Film Festival Audience Choice Award.

Clement Cheng grew up in Vancouver and went to Hong Kong in 1997. Reflecting on his Canadian
experiences, Cheng states: “It gave me a broader scope of the world and a liberal heart towards life and
diversities, and I’m always trying to reflect these values in my works and my working environments. I
love Canada…My dream is to one day make a film about my experiences as a teenager.” Cheng will be in
attendance at the screening and will also be speaking at the Pastiche with a Purpose – Revivals and Revisions of Hong Kong Martial Arts panel.

Pastiche with a Purpose — Revivals and Revisions of Hong Kong Martial Arts | Panel
Thu Nov 11 | 4–6 PM | Munk School of Global Affairs Room 208N | FREE. Open to the public.
