Reel Asian’s Festival Youth Programme is comprised of a selection of films and videos about diverse Asian cultures and social issues by young directors from Canada and around the world. This Program aims to introduce youth to film & video as vehicles for cultural and political advocacy, and includes discussions about the ideas behind work with selected directors and film / media arts experts. This is also a unique opportunity for students to hear first hand experiences about the process of filmmaking. In past years, Festival Youth Programs have included dramatic shorts, animated shorts and documentaries and themes have included ethnic and gender identity, media literacy, generational gaps, language barriers immigrants and refugee issues, youth gang culture, and hip hop.
In 2018, students will be invited to attend Reel Asian’s Festival Youth Presentations. Film screening details will be announced at the official Reel Asian 2018 Festival Launch Party. For more information, please contact our Youth Outreach Coordinator at youthoutreach@reelasian.com.
During Asian Heritage Month, Reel Asian provides in-school presentation programs, Career in the Arts, where selected Asian Canadian filmmakers will present their works, and also speak about a variety of social issues and filmmaking approaches such as documentary, drama, and animation.
