On Sunday, March 10, 2023, Reel Asian will host the Oscars™ watch-along event! This will be a fun, casual get-together to celebrate the Asian representation among this year’s Academy Award nominees, including TO KILL A TIGER nominated for the Best Documentary Feature Award! Notable nominees include:
Doors open at 6PM and there will be mixing and mingling with catering & refreshments from Fox on John and Haisue while the pre-show red carpet broadcast screens in the background. We will have our very own red carpet and backdrop set up to take pictures on! At 6:30PM, we will gather in the Bachir-Yerex Presentation Space for a screening of NǍI NAI & WÀI PÓ and watch as the broadcast stream is projected on the wall. This is a casual, relaxed event so you don’t have to stay seated for the entire broadcast – feel free to get up and move between the two spaces, socialize, and enjoy the hospitality and conviviality of your fellow community members.

For people attending the event, there will be a pay-to-play 50/50 Oscars™ Pool. Fill in the form with your predictions for each category and hand in your form before the broadcast begins at 7PM. The pool costs $20 to participate, with half the proceeds going to Reel Asian and half the proceeds going to the winner.
The winner is the participant with the most correct predictions. You must make a prediction in every category to participate. The winner will be awarded a novelty statuette and be eTransferred the winnings after the event. In the event of a two-way tie, the joint winners may opt to split the prize. In the event of multiple eligible participants, the winner will be decided by random draw.
For people who can’t attend the event in person, you can follow along and play at home! There will be a Google Form available until 6PM EST on March 10 – simply fill in your predictions for each category and submit before the deadline. The contest is FREE and open to all Canadians, coast to coast to coast.

The winner will be sent a $50 gift card furnished by Haisue, good for delivery right to your door along with a novelty statuette from Reel Asian.
