Watch Scarborough on National Canadian Film Day April 20

Join us for a massive one-day, coast-to-coast-to-coast celebration of Canadian cinema. Reel Asian is excited to present a FREE special screening of the critically acclaimed film Scarborough by Shasha Nakhai and Rich Williamson as a part of National Canadian Film Day. The screening is followed by a  Q&A with one of the film’s stars, Ellie Posadas.

This is a free community screening with limited capacity and seating is available on a first come first served basis. Advance tickets are not available. 

Scarborough is the film adaptation of the award-winning novel by Catherine Hernandez. Over the course of a school year, 3 kids in a low-income neighbourhood find community and friendship at a drop-in reading program. The film is the winner of 8 Canadian Screen Awards including Best Motion Picture.

Aram is a filmmaker, educator, and film festival programmer. He is currently the Head of Programming at the Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival. Based in Toronto, Canada, Aram is a mixed-race Asian Canadian/American (Chinese and English/Dutch/German) and a San Francisco native who has a BFA and MFA in Film Production from the University of California at Santa Cruz and York University respectively.

Ellie Posadas
'Edna', Cast

Ellie Posadas is a Queer Filipinx-Canadian, Actor, Singer, and Creator from Toronto. She is part of the award winning comedy and theatre group, ‘Tita Collective’, aiming to tell stories of the Filipin* diaspora. Ellie was recently featured in TIFF 2021 for the world premiere of, Scarborough, based on the award-winning novel by Catherine Hernandez. Ellie was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Canadian Film at the Vancouver Film Critics Circle Awards 2021 for her performance as ‘Edna’ in Scarborough. Other Credits include; Wexford Plaza (34th TFF, CAAMfest, Slamdance), The Morning After (Toronto ‘Inside OUT’ Festival, Los Angeles ‘OUT fest’), Baby Blue Canoe (Toronto After Dark FF)
