THE BRYCE LEE STORY

Canada202687 minEnglish, Mandarin with English Subtitles Toronto Premiere

It’s the 1990s, and Bryce and Mei Lee's parents have sent them from Hong Kong to Vancouver Island to stay with their uncle and work at his Chinese restaurant. To pass the time, they make home movies with a video camera their dad sent with them. But 13-year-old Bryce wants to level up, make some new friends, and — most importantly — get super popular through filmmaking. The quickest way to do that? Tell everyone he knows Bruce Lee.

As Bryce develops a kung fu film that helps him ascend in popularity, his lies compound as he obsesses over finishing, while alienating his sister and uncle. Arnold Lim’s second feature, The Bryce Lee Story, is a classic coming-of-age film told with charm and wit and featuring a talented young cast. A film about filmmaking, it shows the collateral damage of chasing the dream of fame as well as the cost of lying to others — and one’s self.
