Sun-woo and Byung-jin, a couple in their 30s, move to Byung-jin’s hometown in the countryside, hoping it will help Sun-woo’s depression. But a zombie virus disrupts their plans — and Sun-woo gets infected. The two must find a way to evade conspiracy theorists who are trying to expose what they believe are the local government’s efforts to hide the town’s outbreak.
While the premise sounds like a boilerplate zombie thriller, Brunch with a Depressed Zombie flips the genre through a gentle examination of loving relationships. The film asks: How do we care for our loved ones through great life changes? Can we still love them in the same way? Can that care be carried out through an entire community? This love story shows how our answers to these questions make for better lives, no matter the challenges.
