Love watching films? Keen to discuss films amongst a group of peers? Curious to learn more about the programming process at Reel Asian? For the 28th edition of the festival (November 2024), we are looking for dedicated and passionate folks to join our Screening Committee to help us bring together another engaging festival program.

Over the course of 4 or so months, you’ll be asked to screen roughly 100-150 films (features and shorts), participate in bi-weekly discussions, and provide reviews on the films you’ve seen. The role of our Screening Committee is extremely important to the festival – you are the “first line” of viewers for films submitted to the festival for consideration. Through reviewing and discussing films, the committee supports the programming team to distinguish titles worth considering further.

Past Screening Committee members have included filmmakers, volunteers, audience members, and so many more. We aim for our Screening Committee to reflect the range of communities who find themselves at the festival and is composed of individuals of many interests, experiences, and backgrounds.

If this sounds like you, we’d love for you to submit your interest to join Reel Asian’s Screening Committee by Sunday, February 4th, 2024 – 11:59pm PT. Though we’ll prioritize Canadian-based participants, we are open to receiving applications from those who are based beyond Canada keeping in mind the requirements of the role. Participation on the committee is online-based and can be accessed remotely.

Already applied, what are the next steps? Shortlisted applicants will participate in a group discussion with the programming team in February. An orientation session will take place in March with screening responsibilities commencing late to the end of March. All applicants will receive a follow-up email.

For completion of your screening allotment, we will provide an honorarium of $200, Industry-level festival badge to the 28th edition of Reel Asian, invites to year-round events, and snacks.

If you have questions, need assistance with your application or experiencing barriers to applying, please contact: Kelly Lui at programming@reelasian.com.
